Description
8/27/12 Plan Modification (no initiating devices affected): This plan modification is to incorporate field modifications and previous plan review redlines and comments. In addition, per the State Elevator Inspector, the two existing elevators are not required to have recall or shunt trip operations so the monitor modules and control modules for those functions have been deleted.
1/12/12: NOTE: A plan modification is required to be submitted and approved prior to calling for a final inspection.
This fire alarm permit is to replace the existing fire alarm system. This permit includes providing sprinkler system monitoring, elevator recall, HVAC monitoring/shutdown, a full manual system, and full notification throughout the building.

Spoke to Scott with Jacobsen Construction to return his call and also get verification that Rob Ahten with Protex has been authorized by the fire alarm designer/engineer to make design decisions. He stated that he does have on file documentation from the engineer giving Rob Ahten that authorization.
Telephone call  9/5/2012 DONE
Received a phone call from Rob Ahten clarifying the design intent for connections to a damper located in the elevator control room. He stated that the damper is a fire damper on a venting louver for the elvator. He said a smoke detector (will cover the area of the room under the listed spacing) was provided along with a control module to shut the damper upon actuation of the detector. He stated that the smoke detector would not only shut down the damper but also intiate a general alarm condition. He also clarified that the elevator control room smoke detector would be the only device to close the damper. I let him know that, based on his description, the design intent meets IFC and NFPA 72 requirements.
Telephone call  9/5/2012 DONE
Spoke to the inspector to let him know of my phone discussions with Scott (Jacobsen Construction) and Rob (Protex) and that the way the damper is being connected to the fire alarm system per Rob's description does meet code requirements and is acceptable as an as-built condition.

Miscellaneous action  6/4/2012 DONE
Received an email from Protex regarding a field panel modification that had been done. He stated that two power supplies have been taken from their factory 'cans' and placed together in another 'can' and connected together to form one remote power supply. He wanted verification of the ability to use this configuration. I explained that what he described voids the manufacturers UL listing and emailed him the IFC and NFPA 72 sections that explained why this is not allowed. I also recommended he consult with the manufacturer because now the two power supplies that were removed from their factory 'can' may not be listed anymore individually either now that they have been modified; therefore two new power supplies may need to be purchased.
