Recieved an email from E. Lasater with a proposed alternative for the fire alarm reporting. I responded explaining that his solution does not meet code requirements and that it couldn't be accepted. I gave several options for him to explore.
Miscellaneous action  7/19/2012 DONE
Have had several back-and-forth emails with E. Lasater regarding issues with diesel smoke causing false alarms. He stated reasons he didn't think my alternatives/suggestions would work. I let him know that I would not be able to help him with his design issue at this point. I reitterated an earlier suggestion to contact the fire alarm panel manufacturer to see if they have had experience in these matters and could possibly offer a solution.
Meeting  7/19/2012 DONE
Spoke with Deputy Chief Gervais and Scott Arellano regarding the string of emails with E. Lasater and his proposal to have the central station alert the premises of an alarm condition prior to calling the fire department. We all agreed that this was not a viable solution to the false alarm problems.
Miscellaneous action  7/19/2012 DONE
I received another email from E. Lasater stating he had tried calling the manufacturer and other suggestions I had to no avail. He reiterated his previous proposal regarding having the remote station call the premises prior to calling the fire department. I responded explaining I did not agree with his proposal and I referred him to Deputy Chief Gervais. I included D.C. Gervais in on the email response.

Received an email from Earl at Fire Sentry Systems requesting to activate the Alarm Verification Feature due to continuous false alarms in the truck bays. He also asked if he could provide as-built drawings or if he would need to resubmit a plan modification. After speaking with the inspector, it is agreed that the Alarm Verification feature may be activated. I stated that he may provide as-built drawings and documentation at the time of final inspection. I asked that he please include (itemized) written descriptions of how this system will specifically comply with each of the requirements in 23.8.5.4.1, and I asked him to provide two sets of drawings and documentation (one for the job site and one for the inspector for our records).

Completed new system acceptance testing. Final pending as-built plans to include revised location of the FACP, SD, and MP, post signage at the door to the control panel room, provide points map at the panel. Tenant has requested alternate proposals to the system design in order to reduce possibility of false alarms due to environmental conditions at the truck repair bays.
Miscellaneous action  4/24/2012 DONE
Received an email from E. Lasater asking if they can move the fire alarm panel to Elect. Room 107 (other side of the wall from the approved location), add a smoke detector above it, and just provide as-built drawings instead of submitting a plan modification. I let him know that he could provide two sets of as-builts (complete drawing sets and complete calc sets) and that they are to accompany the approved submittals. The inspector can sign them, leave one at the job site and then the inspector will bring back the second one to me for our records. Any other changes will be subject to inspector approval.
