Had a meeting with Bruce of CM Company regarding as-built requirements for the 3rd floor. His specific question was with regard to the existing magnetic door holders that release upon general alarm. Previously, these devices were not shown on the plans. I explained that typically, door release functions after the fact would require a plan modification. However, under the circumstances that the door holders were part of the original system, just not shown on the plans, I verified that the door holders could be indicated on the as-built drawings. I explained that they would need to be shown on the floorplans, on the one-line, and in the I/O matrix. We discussed that a portion of the building remodel was to ensure we have an accurate record of the system. Therefore, this must be included in the as-built drawings and documentation.

Emailed the applicant because several redlines from the previous review were not implemented into the plan modification set. He emailed back stating that some of the redlines were implemented in the field but were not transferred to the drawings. He also forwarded an email from the contractor stating that some walls were incorrect and device locations and counts are incorrect. I explained to the applicant that I could not approved the plan modifications unless they match the installation. I let him know that I would not fail the plans yet but I would need revised drawings and calcs by Friday, 4/19/13.

1.Eliminate the (3) duct detectors in the council chambers
2.Add a relay module for lighting control in the council chambers
And wanted to know if a resubmittal required?
I let him know if those are the only modifications, then as-built drawings should cover it. I asked him to please ensure the original comments/redlines have been implemented and calcs/voltage drops revised, as well as updating the operations matrix. Subject to inspector approval.

Chris with CH2MHill called. He stated the full area smoke detection is for fire/smoke damper shut down in case they get to the end of the project and found fire/smoke dampers. I expresed concern over providing detection when it is not certain that the f/s dampers even exist. I also expressed concern because the panel signal circuits are getting very full. He said they would just add another panel if needed. He has opted to stay with the submitted design of full area smoke detection for f/s damper shutdown. I requested an email or fax of the room names so I can verify room use for detection and notification purposes. He said he would get me the information right away.
