Email Mike Gulley in regards to the use of the 10000 sq ft existing building. His reply is as followsL

The 10,000 square foot building is what we call a shop. It has many uses. We do not store inventory in the shop. We use it to put new product on ATV’s, Snowmobiles and motorcycles, so it can be tested outside. We also will throw picnic tables in the shop when we have events on our site to have a lunch for 150+ people. It was built as an attempt to get non warehouse stuff from our warehouse that was cramped, and give us a place to do the before mentioned stuff. Does that clarify the question?

Typically when we shrink wrap tires they are only wrapped around the pallet leaving the top open.

I have therefore, classified the area as OH II.

Randy,

I am no structural engineer. However, this sounds fine to me.

Please, have Sheldon add the detail to the drawing so that everyone will know where the hangers are to be installed.

Thanks you for your help and time in sorting this out.

Cordially,

Tim Frost, S.E.T.

Jason & Randy,

See attached detail.

The additional load of 250# is ok and was considered using the following rational: Concentrated load was applied to any single fire sprinkler support point, but not simultaneously at all support points. This load was not assumed to act concurrently with roof live load, snow, or wind.

Attachments made within 4” of the centerline of the panel point do not require the joist to be reinforced.
Supports should be to the top chord of the joist.

Joe,
The hangers are 10.5Ft O.C. +/-. There will be 2 hangers per 21ft of pipe. Top beam clamp with a retaining strap on upper chord of joist.

What is the on center spacing of the piping attachment to the joist?

Jason,
I asked City of Boise if Joe Lane’s e-mail would suffice and the Plan Reviewer had a question.
Tim’s Response is as follows:
“Can you send me a copy of detail 9/S2.22 as mentioned in the email. Mr. Lane did not mention the additional 250# required by NFPA. Can you get him to email you that this additional load has been included in his calculations? ”

Tim also sent a copy of the NFPA 13 section as it applies:
“Unless the requirements of 9.2.1.3.3 apply, sprinkler piping shall be substantially supported from the building structure, which must support the added load of the water filled pipe plus a minimum of 250 lb (114 kg) applied at the point of hanging, except where permitted by 9.2.1.1.2, 9.2.1.3.3, and 9.2.1.4.1. (Ref: NFPA 13: 9.2.1.3.1 )
(Please, see NFPA 13: A.9.2.1. for more detailed reference information.)”

For my clarification on Detail 9 of S2.22, loads within 4” of the panel points will not require additional bracing?
Can we support off of the bottom chord?

Thanks,

Randy Knutson
