The fire sprinkler scope of work consists of steel Z purlin building with an office mezzanine. The system is design as a center feed tree with 4” main and 2” branch line. The 6” underground supplies a 4” backflow preventer and riser. Concealed space sprinklers are being used for below the mezzanine.

The fire sprinkler system will be used for building area increase, story increase, and for fire area. To construct a new 17,645 square foot building (14,659 square feet 1st story and 2,986 square feet 2nd story) to be used for office, fabrication, and storage. A grading permit (GRD17-00044) was issued earlier. A foundation permit (BLD17-03338) was also issued earlier and was for excavation, fill compaction, footings, and foundations for the building only. To erect a pre-engineered metal building with a wood framed 2 story office component below the roof of the metal building. The metal building work is to include steel columns, steel beams, steel purlins, metal siding, metal roof deck, and steel bracing. The wood framed office work is to include wood exterior bearing and nonbearing walls, stone veneer, 3-part stucco system, metal siding, wood interior bearing and nonbearing walls, wood floor trusses, wood floor sheathing, wood shear walls, an interior stairway, an exterior steel stairway, exterior doors, exterior windows, interior doors, interior windows, millwork, and finishes. Special Inspection is required for soils, concrete, welding, and bolting. Welding, painting, spraying, and coating operations done within this building as part of its use are required to be in compliance with the Fire Code. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the structural design, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. A separate permit is required for storage racks exceeding 8 feet in height. The fire sprinkler system is required to comply with NFPA 13 and the fire alarm system is required to comply with NFPA 72 as regulated by the Fire Department. Separate fire sprinkler permits and fire alarm permits shall be obtained prior to beginning any modification or installation work on such systems. **CJW**

Submit documentation supporting the point of attachment to Z-purlins for sway brace attachment. Submit documentation supporting the use of Sammy's being installed on the bottom of the Z-purlin instead of the side. Sway braces cannot be attached to each other, provide pipe clamps/quick clamps for each individual sway brace sprinkler main attachment.. Rough to cover inspection complete for office area levels 1 and 2, if bottom of purlin hanger attachment is not approved then hangers installed of purlin will need to be changed.

The sprinkler piping above the hard lids, as marked on the plans, is ok to cover. Plans however will need to be re-submitted due to pipe routing changes and pipe size changes. Also branchline restraints will possibly be needed as discussed where the 6" is exceeded for the hangers on the branchlines, also I need verification that nuts are not needed on the "side sammys" on the Z-pulins. Provide verification that the "Bottom Sammys" can be mounted on the bottom of the Z-purlins. If wood is going to be exposed at the top plate of the walls then upright sprinkler protection will be required.
