(SIMPLOT INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY BUILDING) Permit to construct a 485 square foot addition onto an existing 7,280 square foot building. New addition will be used as a mechanical room. The addition is less than 10 percent of the floor area and therefore is considered accessory occupancy per section 508.3.1 of the 2006 IBC. Work to include: construction of new exterior walls, construction of new roof system over the proposed addition, new site work (sidewalks, landings, and landscaping), new doors, installation of new mechanical units, and installation of interior finishes in compliance with chapter 8 of the IBC. This building is fully fire sprinklered any alterations or modifications to the sprinkler system WILL REQUIRE A SEPARATE PERMIT and shall be installed per NFPA #13 as regulated by the fire department. *ON SITE VISIT* The exterior building measurements that I took indicate a building length of 150.5 feet and a width of 51 feet; for a total fire flow calculation area of 7,676 sq.ft.. The fire flow documentation provided indicates an available fire flow of 2,250 gpm, which is adequate for type VB construction up to 7,700 sq.ft.. No fire flow reduction is necessary for the addition to this building; and therefore the existing fire protection systems are treated as non-required fire protection.
However, for City records this building shall not be considered a fully fire sprinklered building, and therefore will not qualify for any provisions of the IBC or IFC which would otherwise be predicated on a fully fire sprinklered building. Additionally, the existing alternative extinguishing system, located in the data center room would not qualify for any code reductions as if it were a fully fire sprinklered building.
