(GARFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - RAMP AND ELEVATOR ADDITIONS) Only the basement of this building is fire sprinklered. To construct an exterior concrete ramp and an interior elevator shaft and elevator to serve an existing elementary school. An existing basement stairway and an existing 2nd story stairway will be eliminated. An existing 1st story stairway will be replaced with a new stairway, about 2 feet narrower than the old one. The new elevator will have 5 stops (basement, lower 1st story, upper 1st story, lower 2nd story, and upper 2nd story). For the exterior concrete ramp, work is to include concrete footings, concrete retaining walls, concrete slabs, metal guards, and metal handrails. For the interior elevator, work is to include a masonry shaft for the elevator, a 1-hr elevator machine room, and smoke control on the elevator doors (the elevator doors will open into existing 1-hr corridors). The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. **CJW**

2)removecast iron 1/4 bends from relocated 2" waste line and replace with S.S. 90 deg.
3) if the condensate from the new ptac unit is piped to a hub drain in the crawlspace, remove the hub drain, cap waste line and pipe condensate to an approved location.

Some issues noted during the project related fire sprinkler cover inspection include: missing electrical supervision of the main control valve for the existing riser-see fire code review note #21, also verify system is current with an annual certification-see note #17, complete protection for the basement per NFPA 13 shall be provided-see note #13- per NFPA 13 2007 sec. 8.6.7.1 sprinklers shall be required in all ceiling pockets unless exceptions 1-7 are met per 8.6.7.2 including item (2) depth of the unprotected pocket does not exceed 36" and item (7) quick response sprinklers are provided throughout the compartment. See also project related fire alarm permit FIR09-00418 review comments items #19, and 6,7, 12 regarding locations of smoke and heat detectors, in particular item #11 referencing NFPA 72 2007 sec. 6.16.4.2 stating heat detectors used for elevator power shut down shall be placed within 2ft of each sprinkler head and be installed per requirements of Chapter 5.
