(2ND STORY DWELLING UNIT) (6-7-19 PLAN MODIFICATION TO REMOVE INTERIOR NONBEARING WALLS TO CREATE A STUDIO APARTMENT WITHOUT SEPARATE BEDROOMS AND TO CHANGE THE EXTERIOR STAIRWAY FROM STEEL TO A WOOD STAIRWAY WITH WOOD STRINGERS AND WOOD TREADS.) This building does not have a fire sprinkler system. To remodel the 974 square foot 2nd story of an existing 2 story building to be used as a dwelling unit. The dwelling unit is NOT regulated as a Type A or as a Type B dwelling unit. This permit is intended to establish a Certificate of Occupancy for the 2nd story as a dwelling unit. Work is to include interior nonbearing walls, new emergency escape and rescue windows, 45 minute fire-protection-rated glass block in existing window openings in property line walls, a 1-hr roof-ceiling assembly, a new exterior stairway, a new landing at the top of the stairway, and guards. The bearing conditions for the existing roof will be changed. Structural work includes new columns, a new roof beam, and subfloor sheathing installed over the top of the existing 2nd floor. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. The structural design for the new exterior steel stairway is a deferred submittal item. **CJW**
