(GROVE HOTEL – SECURITY BARRIERS IN TWO STAIRWAY ENCLOSURES AT THE 5TH STORY) The fire sprinkler system is used for high-rise and for occupancy. To install a security barrier, including a side-hinged swinging egress door, at the 5th story in the Southwest full height building stairway and to install a security barrier, including a side-hinged swinging egress door, at the 5th story in the Southeast full height building stairway. When the stairway is entered on the 5th story or below, these barriers are intended to control access within the stairways to the stories above the 5th story by preventing unauthorized access from the non-egress side of the barriers. These barrier doors are required to always be openable from the egress side. Both barrier doors are required to be capable of being unlocked simultaneously from the fire command center. Since the barrier doors are not fire doors, they are also allowed to unlatch upon that signal. Both barrier doors are required to have code compliant landings on both sides. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. The fire sprinkler system is required to comply with NFPA 13 and the fire alarm system is required to comply with NFPA 72 as regulated by the Fire Department. Separate fire sprinkler permits and fire alarm permits shall be obtained prior to beginning any modification or installation work on such systems. **CJW**
