The fire sprinkler system is used to substitute for 1-hr fire-resistance-rated construction of the building. To remodel a 2,289 square foot restaurant tenant space located on the 1st story and to expand the sidewalk seating to about 952 total square feet. The entry to the adjacent East tenant space will also be remodeled to include an entry vestibule at the exterior door. In addition, the windows of the East tenant space will be replaced with glazed vertical sliding overhead exterior doors. Work is to include interior nonbearing walls, suspended ceilings, gypsum board ceilings, sound attenuation insulation and plywood ceiling, three entry vestibules at exterior doors, maintaining an existing Type I grease hood and duct system with a listed 1-hr duct wrap system installed from the hood all the way to the exhaust fan on the roof, a modified hood make-up air system, a new Type I grease hood and duct system for solid fuel burning cooking equipment with a listed 1-hr duct wrap system installed from the hood all the way to the exhaust fan on the roof and served by the modified make-up air system, kitchen equipment, glazed vertical sliding overhead exterior doors, exterior doors, millwork, and finishes. To remodel food preparation areas in the basement (total area of about 3,000 square feet). Work is to include interior nonbearing walls, a bearing wall with a concrete footing, a new concrete floor on steel decking to replace a section of wood floor above the new grease hoods, two Type I grease hoods each served by a grease duct that becomes a common grease duct system with make-up air, a listed 1-hr grease duct wrap system continuous from the grease hoods all the way to the exhaust fan on the roof, walk-in coolers, food preparation equipment, and finishes. The changes to the roof structure required to support the added roof top equipment, improved roof access to serve new and existing roof top equipment, the chase wall through the 2nd story to accommodate ducts, and the increased exit access headroom height in the basement were all done under separate permits. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. The fire sprinkler system is required to comply with NFPA 13 and the fire alarm system is required to comply with NFPA 72 as regulated by the Fire Department. Separate fire sprinkler permits and fire alarm permits shall be obtained prior to beginning any modification or installation work on such systems. **CJW**
