Description
IDAHO STATESMAN - To install a new fire alarm system in an existing building and new additions. The new equipment and devices will be installed in phases to coordinate with the phased remodel of the building and will eventually replace the existing building fire alarm system. All work is to be completed by August 2003. In the interim, both systems (new and existing) will be operational, with only the new panel providing signal transmission to offsite monitoring and the existing FAC panel interconnected to the new panel for "alarm" and "trouble" signals only. Both panels are located adjacent to each other, for ease in resetting the panels. The new system will include sprinkler monitoring, a voluntary manual alarm system (pull stations at all exits and full a/v annunciation), monitoring of duct detectors for HVAC air handler shut down, induct detectors for smoke damper release, smoke detection for release of hold-opens on smoke rated doors, smoke and heat detectors for elevator recall/shunt trip, and offsite monitoring.
The associated building permit (BLD 02-00311) is to add a 6,700 s.f. ground floor addition and a 6,150 sq.ft., pre-planned, second floor addition and to remodel approximately 40,000 sq.ft. of existing office space.

I met with the project engineer and the general contractor to discuss items listed on the plan modifications. The items are a/v coverage possibly lacking in areas listed on the plan review comments. Upon field inspection it was determined that a/v coverage was adequate for the listed areas.

Sync strobes in room 181 (av5-17) and in corridor 152, horns in mech. room 218 are not 15db above ambient sound level, provide map for facp, provide locks on breakers, strobes in Press 100g and storage 189c exceed maximum coverage off wall (see plan). THIS WAS A PARTIAL INSPECTION. It appears plans and review notes have not been followed. I'm requesting the fire alarm contractor to reinspect before my next inspection 8/22/2003 1:59:49 PM

I met with mechanical engineer Bob Tikker and architect Marv Merkal and discussed the placement of the duct smoke detectors on units 1, 2 and 3. They have decided to stick with the UMC code and provide the duct smoke detectors on the supply side of these units

the NAC panel in electrical room 125 does not report a trouble when ac power is off and the standby current draw exceeds the calculations, two exit signs in the open office 126 do not work, smoke detectors at the top of the elevator shaft does not recall to the first floor but since there are no sprinklers at the top of the elevator the heat and the smoke should be removed, the heat detector is more than 24" from the sprinkler pendant, 12/11/2002 12:56:02 PM 12/11/2002 12:56:39 PM

The areas inspected and passed for this part of the phase are marked on the job site plans. Current draw for the nac panels is greater than what is stated on the calcs. Contractor needs to install the 10 ah batteries as stated on the plans, label the remote leds, repair one exit sign 11/21/2002 10:27:50 AM
