Description
To provide a required manual fire alarm system and all items required for a high rise, which will include fire department communication, voice/evac, manual pull stations and the Fire Command Center. This permit is to install the fire alarm system for the parking structure only, partial ground floor, to include a 2-hour rated corridor for fire department access to the Fire Command Center, located on the ground floor. Floors 2 and 3 will be completed. Elevator #4, which serves the ground floor to 4th floor only will be installed and in service. The 4th floor will not be utilized at this time for public use.

2/26/2006- Plan Modification. The secondary water source is not available at this time and all required fire alarm monitoring points have been removed from the plans. Only the first floor has been revised. Provide the entire drawing package to the PDS Fire Inspector at time of inspection.

The plans indicate they are for T-3 wireless and include additional fire alarm components for T-3 and Carre's Chocolates. These appliances are not required for this permit.

The building permit BLD04-02876 is to construct a new 235,965 square foot, eleven story high rise, concrete and steel framed retail, parking and hotel shell building. When finished, the first floor will contain 7,775 sq. ft. of retail space, 9,000 sq. ft. of hotel lobby space and 19,020 sq. ft. of parking garage space (total 35,795 sq. ft.). The second, third and fourth floors will be parking garage (34,750 sq. ft. each floor, total of 104,250 sq. ft.). The fifth floor will contain hotel rooms, laundry, meeting rooms, exercise room and indoor swimming pool (16,000 sq. ft.). The sixth through eleventh floors will contain hotel guest rooms (13,320 sq. ft. per floor, total 79,920 sq. ft.). This is a shell permit only. No occupancy is allowed under this permit. A separate tenant improvement permit is required to finish this building for occupancy. All construction per the approved plans and attached comment list. Noted the strobes are not in sync at the HC rooms 911 and 910, also noted the a/v in the 910 restroom is functional on strobe only and did not reset, dampers at two locations did not operate, the SD's in the common corridor failed to initiate a general alarm condition.

Alarm tested satisfactory for the 6th floor guest rooms and common corridor areas. Sprinkler monitoring, elvator lobby, FJ remain to be tested on this floor. Also retested defficiencies on the 7th floor, the added SD in room 728 has not yet been programed, signage is to be provided at the visible "door chime" in the HC accessible room, noted voice evac in the guest rooms does not function on general alarm.

Noted three strobes in the main corridor with incorrect cd, SD in two rooms 728 and 730 are blocked by beams, the HC accessible room strobe notification device must function on general alarm, the "doorbell strobe" device violates IFC 2003 901.4.4.

Entry to document the observance of fire alarm wire installation for the hotel guest rooms without and prior to issuance of a FA permit and approved FA plans. Both the electrical contractor and general contractor have been notified that work is to cease until FA plans have been submitted and approved. Several monitoring points on the fire sprinkler system are not in condition to be tested including the dry systems (air compressors are not set), wet system flow (drain issues), standpipe tampers (closed for hydro test), need to provide proper SD coverage for the generator room as device is overspaced, provide visual notification in the generator room as the proper dB cannot be acheived, provide notification for the HC parking spot on ground level. No test of the elevator as access not available, FJ in stair 2 is not installed. Partial test only of the ground level alarm system today, plans will require resubmittals reflecting all changes, condition of the job prevents completion of testing for approval.
