The remaining sprinkler piping is ok to cover where the sprinkler coverage was inadequate due to the roof transitions. I kept one copy of the as-builts to be compared with the city approved plans when received.

I stopped at the job site and spoke to Ryan. This inspection was for a cover of the remaining piping. I did not give approval since the dry system piping iinstallation has been modified to provide correct protection at the roof elevation transitions; no plans for the modification were on site. This redesign effects the hydraulic calculations, siesmic calculations, volume of the dry system which could effect air compressor sizing and trip times. Approved resubmittals are required prior to cover or the contractor needs to meet with the Boise City Fire Dept. to make other arrangements for cover.

All of the outstanding rough-in issues have been taken care of except for verification from Tyco that the BB1 head installation still meets the manufacturers listing at the two areas of roof transitions. I have approved cover for all areas except for these two locations. Forrest France first addressed this issue on 9-22-2008. I let Ryan know that approved resubmittals will be required prior to a final inspection. My "redlined" city approved drawings are to be submitted to Bryan Johnson with this resubmittal. The building owner was witness to and part of the above conversations. I also found one pendant head in the west wing that was overspaced. Correct spacing will be verified at the final.

Todays inspection was for the wet system. See the city approved plans for deficienceis and there locations. See the city approved plans for the one wing that can have the piping covered since no corrections for the wet or dry system were in this area. The rest of the building has deficiencies listed in red on the city approved plans. They include overspaced heads in the kitchen area. It appears additional heads will be required since the room size exceeds the maximum spacing of the pendant heads as calculated in the room. The size of the piping on the plans does not match what has been installed which includes the corridor remote area. Many heads are closer together than the allowed 8'-0". Heads in the corrior are blocked by a beam and will not provide coverage into the "pockets". The 2" wet system main supplied directly from the riser room has been rerouted and does not match plans. Where there were three elbows, there are now alot of tees which will add to the overall friction loss. While looking at the wet system I noticed that the side sammy's are not installed the minimum distance above the bottom of the truss as required by NFPA 13. I also verified Forrest Frances concern that the 1/4" shank side sammys are being used for piping exceeding 2 1/2" in diameter which is not allowed per the web site. The fitter did not have the specific model number of the attachment used. I let Ryan know that resubmittals will be required showing all of the changes prior to a fire sprinkler final.

Dry system rough-in failed, items include two missing upright heads and piping not installed, 5 BB attic heads to be replaced due to field modified deflector orientation, overspaced coverage at one location above the riser room, noted remote inspectors test connection has been moved from where indicated on approved plan, also noted possible coverage issue at hatched areas due to change in roof pitch at zone of coverage for the BB heads. Also discovered two leaks to be repaired and bushings at some fittings.
