This fire alarm permit is to add notification, pull stations, and smoke detectors to the existing fire alarm system for phase 1. This permit scope does not include elevator recall, as that will be done during phase 2 and shall require a separate fire alarm permit.

Racks were added to the building blocking some of the visual device locations in employee work areas. The contractor has opted to utilize the IFC 2006 code allowance for employee work areas that states:
"907.10.1.2 Employee work areas.
Where employee work areas have audible alarm coverage, the notification appliance circuits serving the employee work areas shall be initially designed with a minimum of 20 percent spare capacity to account for the potential of adding visible notification appliances in the future to accommodate hearing impaired employee(s)."
Audibility requirements in the areas shall be met and will be field verified.

Associated building permit: BLD08-01168 (ADA COUNTY BENJAMIN CAMPUS - PHASE I) To remodel an existing 89,534 square foot warehouse/office building in phases. Phase I will include 41,700 square feet of the east side of the building. Work to include: [installation of new non-bearing interior partition walls to create, two accessible restrooms on the first floor (four stalls in the women's and two stalls w/ two urinals in the men's room), two accessible restrooms on the second floor (five stalls in the women's and three stalls w/ two urinals in the men's), separate sex accessible U/A rooms, elections area, two training room, open office area, meeting room, five new offices, five group rooms, two break rooms,] new three hour wall extension, new lighting, new plumbing, new doors in specified locations, new exit stairs (not enclosed), installation of suspended ceiling system, installation of new mechanical system (grilles, diffusers, ductwork, and new units), miscellaneous related interior finishes, demo of existing metal lean to at the back of the building and accessible parking w/curb cuts at the front of the building. This building is fully fire sprinklered any alterations to the sprinkler system shall be maintained per NFPA #13 as regulated by the fire department. The design, testing and utilization of industrial steel storage racks shall be in accordance with the RMI Specification for the Design, Testing and Utilization of Industrial Steel Storage Racks. A separate permit is required if any racks over eight feet are installed. This phase will be given a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy until phase II is completed then a Certificate of Occupancy will be issued to the entire building.**TLW**
