Description
The Fire Sprinkler Scope of work consists of adding and revising the fire sprinkler protection to a portion of the building. When the fire sprinkler work is completed, the entire building will have fire sprinklers. The work will begin by adding a new backflow preventer and adding fire sprinklers to the eastern end of three levels. The basement fire protection is apparently existing. However, extensive changes are required to the fire sprinkler system. The existing underground piping is 4". The second floor piping will be tented with insulation to prevent freezing. The attic system will be a dry system. Each level will have a floor control valve per BMC. All sprinklers will be quick response type.

Plan Mod 1 Scope:

The plan mod scope of work consists of adding sprinklers to mechanical rooms located in the basement. In addition, the pipe sizes of the existing main in the basement were wrong and have been corrected. Therefore, new hydraulic calculations were needed and have been provided. Only the ballooned areas indicated as PM have been reviewed in this submittal.

To remodel the basement (3,528 square feet), first story (3,528 square feet), and second story (3,528 square feet) of the existing Lindsay Hall portion (East end of building) of the First Presbyterian Church. Work is to include upgrading the restrooms on all 3 stories to be accessible to the disabled, upgrading the enclosure of the East stairway to be 1-hr fire-resistance-rated, constructing interior walls, installing new folding partitions, and creating new openings in an existing masonry wall (steel headers and trimmers). Work also includes exterior windows, doors, suspended acoustical ceilings, interior finishes, and millwork. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. Lindsay Hall will be fully fire sprinklered throughout in conjunction with this permit. The fire sprinkler system of the entire First Presbyterian Church building is required to comply with NFPA 13 as regulated by the Fire Department. **CJW**

The rough-in for the basement was stopped after it was found that the 3" sch. 10 main as shown on the city approved plans was not installed. The 2nd floor dry and wet system rough-in inspection passed except as noted in red on the city approved plans and the piping can be covered. The overhead hydro on dry system failed due to a drop from 212 psi to 208 psi after two hours.
