Todays inspection was just for the rough-in on the second floor mains, branchlines and arm overs. Additional inspections will be required once the ceiling grid has been installed to verify final pendant sprinkler spacing.

Todays inspection was verifying that the combustible concealed spaces around the building have been reduced in size to be less than 160 cubic feet each as allowed in the 2009 NFPA 13. All of the spaces that were spot check on the outside of the building were 120 cubic feet or less and the second floor spaces were around 80 cubic feet. I gave the ok to re-cover the concealed spaces.

Jeff and I met and discussed the combustible concealed space/soffit that encircles the entire building. This space will need to meet NFPA 13 Chapter 8 requirements such as sprinkler protection or filled with non-combustible insulation.

Todays inspection was for the rough-in on the first floor. The piping as installed is ok except that resubmittals are required showing the pipe routing changes and the combustible construction. The combustible construction includes wall caps, beams, TJI joists, spaces under stairs, wall bracing and mechanical shafts. Per the plans the mechanical shafts are concrete. There is the possibility that the TJI's located on the first floor near the remote area will drive the need for the hydraulic calculations to utilize the 3,000sq ft remote area for the first floor. Fire sprinkler protection will need to be provided for both the first and second floors due to the combustibles or requirements out of NFPA 13 Chapter 8 will need to be met if possible. No piping is to be covered and no spaces are to be covered until these issues are resolved.

The insulation in the combustible concealed space does not meet 2010 NFPA 13 - 8.15.1.2.17. Blow-in insulation has been used not the batt insulation as required.
