The fire sprinkler scope of work consists of providing fire sprinkler protection for and existing portion of the building, which is mercantile, and a new portion of the building, which is storage. There is one system divide into two grids. The grid in the existing portion is 3”x3”x1½”. The grid in the new portion is 6”x4”x3”. The system is supplied through approximately 8”x140”± C-900 underground piping with associated fittings and restraints. The riser is equipped with a 6” backflow preventer. The existing mercantile portion of the system utilizes extended coverage 16’x16’ standard response sprinklers. The new portion utilizes CMSA with 14’x14’ spacing. The new portion has 16’ high racks with an intermediate catwalk level. The storage on the racks has been considered as Class IV. The design is based on FM 8-9 and 2-0 since there was not any criterion per NFPA for this particular rack, mezzanine, and catwalk configuration. Therefore, IFC:102.8 was utilized.
