Description
The fire sprinkler scope of work consists of 6” underground supply through a 6” backflow preventer to (2) Dry Systems and (2) Wet systems. Each longitudinal half of the production area is protect by a side feed dry system. There is a side feed system protecting the loading dock. The loading dock protection is supplied by one of the dry systems. The two story office area is protected with a wet system for each floor. The production area is a recycling plant, recycling - aluminum, paper and plastics. The recycling plant and dock is design for ordinary hazard group II. The office area is light hazard.

FIELD INSPECTOR: There is a lot of processing equipment on this project. Undoubtedly, there will be obstructions greater than 48”, which will require additional sprinklers. Please, do not final this project until all equipment has been installed and all obstructions have proper fire protection.

Plan Mod#1 – 8/12/2014
Fire protection is being added below the sorting equipment in areas that are over 4' wide. Some areas on the east side have two layers of conveyors over 4' wide with sprinklers below both. The stairs, most of the catwalks and many conveyors are less than 4' wide and do not have sprinklers below. There are many low point drains due to the owner's request, to have the main high and drop down to lines. Most drains are 1/2" valve w/plug (less than 5 gal. trapped). Some have drum drip assemblies. The 3” main & branch lines under the main body of the equipment are sized like the existing loading dock piping. Drops to the east side & conveyor pits are sized like the production area roof system piping, seven sprinklers from a 2” feed.

Western Recycling - New Production Warehouse - To construct a new 37,595 square foot, one story, pre-engineered metal warehouse building with a 1,820 square foot unfinish mezzanine for future office space. A separate tenant improvement permit will be required to finish the mezzanine as an office occcupancy. All construction per the approved plans and attached comment list. JCM

Underground Flush passed. Also performed a rough-in and found that the only real issue other than final inspection items is the lack of seismic bracing on all of the branchlines. Per the plans the piping was to be installed without per the exception of chapter 9 but was run at a lower elevation.
