The fire sprinkler system is used for code trade-offs (e.g. in lieu of rated corridors, to allow closer exit separation, and to allow an E Occupancy in the basement). A fire sprinkler system and a horn/strobe type fire alarm system are required to be installed throughout this building under separate permits. To remodel an existing 6,813 square foot building (4,703 square foot 1st story and 2,110 square foot basement) for a new daycare tenant. The 4,703 square foot 1st story has a 3,201 square foot lower level at grade and a 1,502 square foot upper level. Work is to include a new exterior door, interior nonbearing walls, a toilet room accessible to the disabled, a “high” and “low” drinking fountain accessible to the disabled, upgraded guards, upgraded handrails, panic hardware, and finishes. A 3,300 square foot fenced play area will also be created. A code compliant egress system is required from the fenced play area. The work is required to comply with the approved drawings, with the plan review report, and with all applicable codes and ordinances. Children less than 2.5 years of age are allowed to be cared for only within rooms having a door directly to the outside. Smoke alarms are required in rooms used for sleeping. Carbon monoxide detectors are required within this building if fuel burning appliances are provided within this building. The fire sprinkler system is required to comply with NFPA 13 and the fire alarm system is required to comply with NFPA 72 as regulated by the Fire Department. Separate fire sprinkler permits and fire alarm permits shall be obtained prior to beginning any installation work on such systems. **CJW**
